PlayStation Unveils PS5 Pro: Price, Launch Date, and Enhanced Features

PlayStation has officially announced the upcoming launch of its highly anticipated console, the PS5 Pro. Set to hit the shelves on November 7, the PS5 Pro will retail for $699.99, a notable increase compared to the original PS5, which debuted in November 2020 at $499 for the standard version and $399 for the digital-only edition. Pre-orders for the new console will commence on September 26.

Enhanced Features and Specifications

During a live-streamed technical presentation, Mark Cerny, the lead architect of the PS5, revealed exciting details about the PS5 Pro. The updated console boasts significant improvements, including:

  • Upgraded GPU: The PS5 Pro features a graphics processing unit (GPU) with 67% more compute units than its predecessor and 28% faster memory, resulting in up to 45% enhanced rendering speeds for a smoother gaming experience.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: The new console incorporates advanced ray tracing capabilities, allowing for more dynamic light reflection and refraction. This improvement enables light rays to be cast at double or even triple the speeds of the original PS5.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: Introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven technology designed to enhance image clarity by adding exceptional detail through machine learning.

Game Compatibility

PlayStation has committed to enhancing several popular titles for the PS5 Pro through free software updates. Games optimized for the new console will be marked with a “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label. Titles set to receive these updates include:

The PS5 Pro will come equipped with a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller, and a pre-installed copy of “Astro’s Playroom.” The console will also be available in a disc-less version, with an option to purchase a separate disc drive.
