Opportunities for Graduate Students
Graduate students can apply for teaching assistantships, which not only provide financial support but also valuable teaching experience. Here are some key points regarding Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs):
- To be considered for a GTA position, applicants must submit a specific application during the graduate program application process.
- International GTAs are required to demonstrate proficiency in spoken English, meeting minimum scores on standardized tests such as the TOEFL or IELTS within their first year.
- GTA roles come with significant benefits, including tuition waivers that cover the necessary credits for degree completion and a monthly stipend based on teaching assignments.
Application Requirements
All applicants, including international students, must take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). While the subject test is not mandatory, it is essential that official scores are sent to the Graduate School. Here are a few specifics for international students:
- If you hold a degree from an accredited American or Canadian institution (excluding Quebec), you may be exempt from the TOEFL requirement.
- For those who do need to take the TOEFL, the minimum acceptable scores are:
- 550 (paper version),
- 213 (computer version),
- 79 (internet version), with minimum component scores of 16.
- The IELTS score of 6.5 is also accepted.
